Treatment - what to expect

Seeing a herbalist is rather like going to your GP, except that the appointments last rather longer.

The first consultation lasts 60 to 90 minutes (less for young children). That gives me time to find out about the condition, about your health in general, examine you and make up your medicine. You need to bring a sample of urine and a list of any prescription medicines that you are taking - or just bring the medicines themselves.

With a very few exceptions, you can use herbal medicines alongside conventional drugs, but I need to know what you are taking so that I can make sure that there are no undesirable side effects.

Most herbal medicines are liquid tinctures of which you take a teaspoon three times a day. However, I also prescribe herbal teas, skin creams and other types of medicines as necessary.

Further appointments last 30 minutes and are a chance to dicuss your progress, and alter your medicine as necessary. The length of treatment, and the number of appointments, depends entirely on your needs - no two people are ever the same
